Questions
Before you book.
Ask us anything on WhatsApp. A person from our Shimla team replies.
Is McLeodganj the same as Dharamshala?
McLeodganj is the upper part of Dharamshala, about 20 minutes up the hill by road. Dharamshala town sits lower down and is more of a transit and market point, while McLeodganj has the Dalai Lama Temple, Tibetan colony, cafes and trek starting points, so most travelers base themselves there.
How many days do I need for Dharamshala McLeodganj?
A comfortable trip needs 3 to 4 nights: enough time for the monasteries, Bhagsu Falls, Dharamkot cafes and one day for the Triund trek. Add 2 more nights if you want to include the Kareri Lake trek or a Kangra day trip.
Is the Triund trek difficult for a beginner?
It's a moderate day trek, about 9 km one way with a steady climb, doable by most reasonably fit beginners in 4 to 6 hours up. It does not need technical climbing experience, but proper shoes and an early start help a lot.
What is the best time to visit Dharamshala McLeodganj?
March to June for clear Dhauladhar views and pleasant weather, September to November for post-monsoon clarity, and December to February if you want snow at Triund and Dharamkot. July and August bring monsoon rain and cloud cover.
Do I need any permit for the Triund or Kareri Lake trek?
A basic forest entry fee applies at the Triund trailhead, which we handle as part of the trek packages above. No special permit is required for Indian nationals; foreign nationals should carry ID for the forest checkpost.
